Through the training process, we've befriended a powerful ally - the Kong. When we first purchased it, Eddie didn't show too much interest. We'd throw it and he would watch with his cute head tilt, as if to say - " Ok, now what do you want me to do?". Of course, once we filled it up with treats, his interest level jumped. Now when we throw the Kong, he will chase after it, grab it, shake it, chew it and run around with his prize. We put his kibble in the Kong with a pinch of peanut butter, freeze it and serve it to the dog with the waggly tail. It's perfect for an active dog and an active chewer like Eddie!
Our dog Eddie has been attending group obedience classes. The trainer Kim is excellent and teaches the positive reinforcement method. He loves her and we recommend her! Eddie is making good progress. He's learned to walk on a loose leash, sit, stop jumping and now he is working on down. He's also doing some extra homework - learning not to bark at people and dogs, and training to curb low tolerance, inappropriate chewing and separation anxiety. Whew. It's loads of work for him and for us, but so very worth it!

I'm really liking the Ampersand label Claybord TM. Vellum and frosted mylar had been my go-to substrates, but for portraiture, I like the white, soft surface of Claybord TM. Graphite and paint glide (slide in fact!) along the surface. The panel is rigid, comprised of a kaolin clay ground and 1/8 artist hardboard support. Once the piece is completed and sealed, it can be presented without a frame if one desires. It's pretty awesome! I buy my Claybord TM from Jerry's Artarama.
My intention for this blog is to share some regular musings about animals, organization, life, art, cooking...well anything.
Let's start at the beginning - at least the beginning of my life here in Austin. I moved with Mister Tabasco, my cat/fur child, almost two years ago from Houston. We moved in with my love and three of his children. His fourth child is in college. So far it's been an incredible whirlwind with loads of learning and new experiences. Within the last few months, even more changes took place. My beloved Mister was stricken with bone marrow cancer and died within a few weeks. That was heartbreaking. But I know that his soul is with me (and his beautiful face is on my home page!). I finished up my term at the Bullock Texas State History Museum - a wonderful museum - and continued to work on my new business. With the launch of my website, I hit the ground running! In addition to all of this, we adopted a cute, affectionate 5 year old (approx) dachshund mix named Eddie about one month ago. You can see his picture in the Portraits page! The kids wanted a cat or dog and although it was sooner than desired, we could not refuse taking Eddie, especially as he was in the shelter system for over two years. As expected, he has some issues, and so we are working with him, and taking him to obedience school. It's taking a bit of effort, but it is/will be worth it. Let's call this the Eddie project. More on this delightful saga later! |
